Omega Aviation Ground Power Units
Also known as aircraft ground generators.
Is a device used on the ground at airports to supply aircraft without an APU (Auxiliary Power Unit) with electric power. It is also used by aircraft with APUs if the airport authority does not permit the usage of APUs at its docks or if the carrier wishes to save on the use of jet fuel (which APU's use).
The most common form of Ground Power Unit is a small vehicle or trailer with a diesel generator although units fueled with gasoline are also known. There are also all-electric units that are powered off of the local electrical grid. There are 2 types, one is 28 volt DC current and the other is an AC unit.
The AC units are 400 hertz or 400 cycle same thing. The sizes come in 60 kva, 90 kva which is the most popular size, 120 kva and 140 kva. Each model aircraft has different size power requirements.
The larger the aircraft the larger the power requirements. One can go higher on the size but not lower.
Example: An aircraft requires 60 KVA, you can use a 90 KVA, but not the other way around.
